Outreach

At Holy Family, we take seriously the promises of the Baptismal Covenant: to seek and serve Christ in all persons, to love our neighbors as ourselves, to strive for justice and peace, and to respect the dignity of every human being.

Our Outreach Ministries provide meaningful ways to live out those promises. Whether through generous giving, hands-on service, or faithful partnership with our neighbors, parishioners are invited to participate in God’s work beyond our walls.

In addition to direct involvement, Holy Family supports a variety of local and global ministries through financial contributions and material donations.

To learn about current projects and upcoming opportunities, watch the bulletin, newsletters, and our website for updates.

Local Outreach Partnerships

We are grateful to partner with organizations in our region that serve our neighbors with compassion, dignity, and justice.
Current local outreach partners include:

St. Joseph’s, Durham – Community Breakfast

Holy Family is proud to support St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church and its Community Breakfast Ministry through donations of food and financial contributions. This ministry provides a hot, welcoming breakfast five days a week to anyone who comes through the doors. Coffee hour begins at 7:00 a.m., followed by a full meal at 8:00 a.m., served to neighbors from across the community, including local workers, students, and unhoused residents. On Wednesday mornings, community partners also provide access to free showers, offering additional care and hospitality.

In addition to financial and food support, volunteers from the wider community help prepare, serve, and clean up each weekday meal. From early morning coffee preparation to cooking and welcoming guests, this ministry reflects a shared commitment to dignity, fellowship, and practical care for our neighbors. Holy Family is grateful to partner in this meaningful outreach.

Please visit St. Joseph’s, Durham for more information.

Interfaith Council for Social Service (IFC)

Inter-Faith Council for Social Service has been a valued partner of Holy Family since its founding in 1963. As the primary nonprofit provider of safety-net services in Orange County, IFC works to keep people housed, serves more than 52,000 hot meals each year, distributes over 11,000 bags of groceries, and provides safe shelter with the goal of helping individuals secure permanent housing. Holy Family supports this work through financial contributions from the Outreach Commission, monthly food donations and special drives like Project 5000, participation in the annual CROP Hunger Walk, and hands-on volunteer service preparing and serving Community Kitchen meals. Fourteen parishioners currently volunteer each month, reflecting our ongoing commitment to share our time, talent, and resources in service to others.

Please visit the IFC website for more information.

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County

Holy Family proudly supports Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, NC through financial contributions and hands-on volunteer participation in local home builds. Habitat partners with families in our community to make safe, affordable homeownership a reality. With the help of volunteer labor and donated resources, homes are built and sold with low-interest mortgages, and monthly payments are structured to remain affordable for working families.

In addition to new construction, Habitat assists homeowners with critical repairs that improve safety and stability. As part of the broader mission of Habitat for Humanity International, this work strengthens families and neighborhoods locally and around the world. Holy Family is grateful to support efforts that build brighter futures and lasting stability in our community.

Refugee Resettlement Initiatives

Caring for refugees is woven into the fabric of Holy Family’s life and faith. Our Refugee Ministry began in 2015, when parishioners committed to learning, planning, and preparing to walk alongside families rebuilding their lives in the United States. Since welcoming our first family of Syrian refugees in 2016, parishioners have offered practical, hands-on support — helping with school enrollment, job applications, transportation, English language learning, and the many everyday systems that can feel overwhelming in a new country.

Over the years, Holy Family has partnered with local organizations and neighboring churches to support families from Afghanistan and beyond, raising funds, securing housing, and building strong networks of care. What began as a single-family sponsorship has grown into a sustained ministry marked by generosity, collaboration, and long-term relationships. Today, the families we have supported are thriving, employed, educated, and active in their communities, a testament to what is possible when a parish commits to faithful accompaniment.

Orange County Justice United (OCJU)

Orange County Justice United is a coalition of 24 congregations and community organizations working to promote justice for our neighbors in Orange County. Holy Family formally joined OCJU more than a decade ago, building on earlier individual involvement, and has steadily deepened its commitment through financial support and significant volunteer leadership. Today, a core parish team collaborates with OCJU’s leadership to shape an annual, grassroots-driven agenda and engage public and private decision-makers on issues that affect everyday life in our community. More than 40 parishioners regularly participate in major action events, demonstrating strong and visible support for this work.

Through OCJU, Holy Family has helped achieve meaningful local impact. These efforts have included improving living conditions in area mobile home parks, securing $3.3 million to expand equitable access to mental health services, and preserving affordable housing with $1.6 million for home repairs and property tax relief. Current initiatives focus on fair tax assessment practices, housing solutions for people transitioning from incarceration or homelessness, and protections for immigrants’ rights across the county. Together with our partners, we are able to extend our reach beyond what we could accomplish alone and make a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Episcopal Farmworker Ministry (EFWM)

Holy Family has long supported the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry,, a joint ministry of the Episcopal Dioceses of North Carolina and East Carolina serving farmworkers across eastern North Carolina. Founded in 1978 as a small clothing pantry, EFWM has grown into a wide-ranging ministry offering food and clothing distribution, field supplies, mattress swaps for labor camps, ESL classes, school supplies, legal advocacy, and community programs for workers and their families — most of whom are Latino agricultural laborers.

Our parish has been involved with EFWM for nearly four decades through volunteer service, material donations, and consistent financial support through the Outreach Commission. As farmworker communities increasingly settle year-round in the region, EFWM continues to adapt to meet changing needs. Holy Family remains committed to standing alongside this vital ministry, supporting the dignity, safety, and well-being of the workers who sustain our agricultural economy.

Please visit Episcopal Farmworker Ministries for more information.

Global Outreach Partnerships

Our commitment to the Baptismal Covenant extends beyond our local community. Through prayer, relationship, financial support, and hands-on partnership, Holy Family joins in God’s work around the world, building long-term relationships and responding to urgent needs with compassion and hope.

Our Partner School & Church in Molas, Haiti

For nearly 40 years, Holy Family has shared a deep and faithful partnership with the people of Molas, Haiti, centered around L’École de Notre Dame. Parishioners who have traveled there speak of the beauty of worshiping from the same prayer book, building lasting friendships, serving alongside one another, and discovering that mission is always mutual. Those who go to Haiti often return feeling just as transformed as those they hoped to serve, a powerful sign of Christ’s presence in this long-standing relationship.

Although political instability and violence have prevented travel in recent years, our connection remains strong. Through annual Outreach support, scholarship drives, and Alternative Christmas offerings, Holy Family sends approximately $30,000 each year to sustain the school’s ministry, including teachers’ salaries, a daily lunch program for 200–250 students, and secondary education for two students annually. We remain in regular contact with our partner priest, Père Jean Jonas Laborde, and continue to pray faithfully for the children and families of Molas. For generations of students in rural northern Haiti, this partnership has meant education, nourishment, and the enduring knowledge that they are known, loved, and not forgotten.

World Central Kitchen

Holy Family supports World Central Kitchen through financial contributions that help provide fresh, nourishing meals to people affected by disasters around the world. Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen began with a simple but powerful idea: in times of crisis, food is essential—not only for sustenance, but as a sign of care, dignity, and hope. Holy Family is grateful to support this life-giving work, helping ensure that in moments of crisis, neighbors around the world are fed with compassion and respect. Please visit Word Central Kitchen for more information.

ChildReach Africa (Uganda)

For nearly 30 years, Holy Family has partnered with ChildReach Africa, a ministry founded by Catherine Piwang of Uganda. What began as a relationship formed while Catherine worshiped at Holy Family in the 1990s has grown into a long-standing mission partnership rooted in prayer, friendship, and shared commitment. In the wake of civil war and the HIV/AIDS crisis, ChildReach Africa cared for orphans and supported young women who had experienced violence and displacement, helping them heal and develop practical, marketable skills.

Today, the ministry operates a preschool and primary school in northern Uganda and offers vocational training in sewing, tailoring, and financial literacy for young women. Through Endowment grants, diocesan partnerships, Outreach funding, and proceeds from Holy Family’s Alternative Christmas Market, our parish continues to support this life-changing work and the strengthening of a rural Ugandan community.

Episcopal Relief & Development

Holy Family supports Episcopal Relief & Development through monetary gifts that help respond to human suffering around the world. As the compassionate outreach ministry of The Episcopal Church, Episcopal Relief & Development provides critical assistance in times of disaster and advances long-term, sustainable development by addressing the root causes of poverty and hardship. Through trusted global partnerships within the Anglican Communion and beyond, the organization faithfully administers funds to deliver emergency relief, strengthen communities, and promote lasting change. Holy Family is grateful to contribute to this vital work, extending our care and compassion to neighbors both near and far. Please visit Episcopal Relief & Development for more information.

Kirtipur Christian Fellowship (Nepal)

Holy Family supports Kirtipur Christian Fellowship in Kathmandu, Nepal, through financial contributions that strengthen its vibrant, growing ministry led by Gyani and Madhu Thapa. They build community through prayer, worship, children’s programming, Bible study, and outreach to the elderly. Holy Family is grateful to partner in this meaningful ministry, helping extend care beyond the local congregation. This year, that support helped provide school bags and learning supplies for children in a remote village, also served by Gyani and Madhu.
